Important Fall 2014 Healthcare Open Enrollment Tips and Deadlines

The Open Enrollment period for healthcare under the Affordable Care Act is coming up soon, and we want our Simplefill community to be prepared for this important time of year. Grab a pen and get ready to mark your calendars with the information you need about coverage from a Qualified Health Plan.

The 2014 Open Enrollment ended on March 31, 2014. If you’ve been waiting to apply for coverage, the 2015 Open Enrollment starts on November 15, 2014 and lasts until February 15, 2015.

Apply before the open enrollment deadline for your chance to become eligible for marketplace healthcare. In the meantime, a premium estimate will provide you with a snapshot of the expected coverage cost.

Keep in mind that your coverage start date depends on when you apply. When you enroll between the 1st and 15th days of the month, your coverage will begin on the first day of the following month. Those who enroll between the 16th and last day of the month will get coverage starting on the first day of the second month. For example, if you enroll on November 20, 2014, your coverage will begin on January 1, 2015.

For individuals looking to enroll in Medicare Part C and D, the open enrollment is slightly different. The dates you can start applying for coverage are October 15 – December 7.

Are you wondering how to enroll in Obamacare? While most individuals have to wait until the Open Enrollment begins on November 15, some can apply for coverage under the Special Enrollment period. Special Enrollment is granted to families who experience loss of health coverage or a change in family status.
